About Apprentice of the Year

Registered Master Builders Apprentice of the Year, in partnership with CARTERS, aims to recognise excellence among carpentry apprentices and raise awareness of career opportunities in the building and construction industry.

The competition has been running for over 20 years and looks to test several aspects of a well-rounded apprentice, not just their skills on the tools.

Important Dates 2024

Entries open Friday 8 March - Friday 12 April 2024. Entries for 2024 have now closed.

Regional Practical Saturday 8 June 2024
July and August – Regional Judging and Interviews
August and September – Regional Awards Events

National Judging and Awards - 8 and 9 November 2024.

This two day event comprises of interviews, the practical event and the National Awards Gala dinner. The dinner is a ticket only event.

The National Practical will be co-located at CONZTRUCT Auckland North on Thursday 8 November 2024 at Eventfinda Stadium.
